Here’s additional information about the zoning rewrite:

The City of Clarkston is in the process of rewriting its current Zoning Ordinance.  This ordinance regulates how land can be used, including allowable uses, site configurations, parking and loading, landscaping, and other requirements that help maintain the compatibility of neighboring uses.

The City last updated its ordinance in 2012.  Click here to view the current ordinance.  Since that update, Clarkston has grown in land area through annexation as well as in population.

The purpose of this rewrite is to…

– Address inconsistencies due to numerous amendments since the last full update

– Align zoning regulations with the community vision identified in the City’s comprehensive plan, which is also in the update process through a partnership with the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC)

– Create a zoning ordinance that is user friendly through the incorporation of tables, graphics, and illustrations

– Address other common topics of concern identified through the community engagement process

Here is additional information about the Comprehensive Plan update:

“One of the fundamental responsibilities of local government is planning – a word used to describe how a community shapes and guides its future growth, development, and identity. Updating the comprehensive plan offers the community the opportunity to look beyond the execution of day-to-day services and consider where they want to be in the future, as well as what needs to be done to get there.”
