Tucker, GA — Helping Radio Tucker celebrate its first anniversary on the air, local groove-rock band The Bitteroots will be headlining the inaugural Radio Tucker Music Festival from 4 to 9 p.m. July 17, a press release says.

The free event will take place at Tucker Brewing Co., 2003 South Bibb Drive, Tucker, Ga.

The festival opens with a set by local singer-songwriter Art Linton, who’s been described as “a bit like Elvis Costello” while delivering a mix of folk, funk, country blues, soul and classic rock. The event will also feature live DJ sets by DJ Fernando F.

“We’ve been huge supporters of Radio Tucker since they got going, and they’ve been huge supporters of us as well as local bands and musicians in general,” says Bitteroots bassist Bill Taylor. “We jumped at the chance to help them celebrate their first anniversary and we wish them continued success. What they’re doing for local music is phenomenal.”

Radio Tucker went on-air in July 2020, in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic when local bands weren’t able to play bars, clubs and festivals. Founder Jason Becknell says he wanted Radio Tucker to be a venue through which local bands could share their music with the world.

“From the start we were looking forward to the day when we could get back out to live concerts, and it looks like we’re getting there. With the one-year anniversary of our launch coming up this July, we wanted to do something to thank all of our listeners,” Becknell says. “Bill Taylor suggested that we have a concert in Tucker, and I thought that was a perfect idea. Thanks to support from Tucker Brewing Company, we’re able to keep this festival free for fans.”

The Bitteroots’ latest full-length album, “Try Me Again,” was premiered on Radio Tucker’s “Georgia Homegrown” show, as was their 2020 single, “Time To Spare.” “Try Me Again,” released April 8, collects The Bitteroots’ favorite songs from the band’s first 10 years, with reimagined and updated recordings of 13 tracks.

Songs by The Bitteroots and countless other Atlanta-area bands can be heard Saturdays at 6 p.m. on Radio Tucker’s “Local Time” show. The station also plays local bands in its main rotation, and fans can request their favorite songs.

“I think it’s really cool to turn on Radio Tucker and hear a song from your friends, co-workers or neighbors,” Becknell says. “When you have several people listening to the same song, at the same time, there’s a connection that you don’t get from just listening to your personal playlists. That shared experience is what makes live concerts so great, and while live music was taking a pause for the pandemic, I was excited to provide an online venue for a shared musical experience. I’m just thrilled to have live, local music back!”

In addition to an afternoon of live music, guests of the Radio Tucker Music Festival can win free prizes from Radio Tucker and enjoy great food and beer from Tucker Brewing Co.
