Clarkston, GA — Clarkston will be offering $50 gift certificates for Clarkston residents who receive vaccinations at clinics held in the city.

The certificates will be for local Clarkston businesses and will be funded with $10,000 from the American Rescue Plan Act.

The decision was made at the July city council work session and put into motion by City Manager Robin Gomez.  At the regular meeting of the city council August 4, details of the plan were discussed as well as the city’s plan to allocate $75,000 towards public health efforts.

Owners and staff from the businesses affected by the repeal of late night alcohol sales came to register their dismay during public comment. Staff members stated that cutting their hours meant cutting their income.

In other news, the city adopted a resolution to encourage the Georgia Department of Transportation to add additional sound barriers between Interstate 285 and Clarkston when they add a new lane.

Friday, Sept. 3 at 7 pm the city will be celebrating the completion of a $7 million streetscape project, with a ribbon cutting, fireworks, a bounce house, and Refuge Coffee trucks.

Mayor Beverly Burks and city council members Laura Hopkins and Debra Johnson attended the July 17 ribbon cutting for Cottages on Vaughan, a tiny house community project in Clarkston.

An electric vehicle charging station license agreement with Georgia Power for stations to be installed in the city is under consideration, but council members want to clarify whether the stations will be free and where the electricity will be coming from.
