Tucker, GA — Tucker City Council meets Sept. 27 for a work session, followed by a special called meeting.

The work session agenda includes discussion on paving Richardson Street, adding an amendment to city code for sidewalk dining on Main Street and Brockett Road traffic-calming.

On the agenda for the special called meeting at 8 p.m. are several contracts previously approved by City Council for parks and fiscal year 2022 budget. The contract were expected to come in below the $100,000 threshold for performance and payment bonds, and now the city is making an adjustment to the projects.

“As we were preparing the contracts, after the approval, the decision was made to add the bonds to protect the City from possible default.  We don’t expect any issues, this is just precautionary step,” said Rip Robertson, director of Parks and Recreation. “The bidders added the bonds to their bids and they were still the low, qualified bidder for the project by a significant amount. Any other bidders would have been contacted to add this to their bid had it been necessary.”

Robertson said in the future, there will be a requirement for all projects over $100K to have performance and payment bonds as part of the bidding process.

“This is part of the City’s efforts to ensure our procurement procedures are correct and the City is protected during project completion,” said Robertson.

A contract for sidewalks at Henderson Park on Sept. 13 for $117,400 will add $3,522 in performance and payment bonds.

A memo states, “This project will install sidewalks tying into the existing sidewalk at Livsey Street at the park entrance and run the full length to the first parking lot on Henderson Park Road. Due to some topography issues, there will be sections adjacent to the curb and some with landscape strips. This project is intended to provide safer access to the park and trails.”

Robertson will also ask City Council to approve an additional $3,811 for performance and payment bonds at the William Probst Memorial. Smoke Rise neighbors are paying for the memorial, which will now cost $129,611 in total.

The work session starts at 7 p.m., followed by the special called meeting. City of Tucker is holding all meetings in person and online.
