Clarkston, GA — The city of Clarkston is hosting a food distribution event on Saturday, Oct. 2, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Tahoe Village Shopping Center, 4604 E. Ponce de Leon Ave.

In partnership with Lions of Georgia, Community Teen Coalition and Anthem, the city will give out fresh produce, Halal meat and personal items throughout the remainder of the year. Food boxes will also be delivered to some of the local apartment complexes in an effort to accommodate the whole community.

“I feel that this pandemic has put this country in a very compromising position and I feel that no matter the financial status or situation, no one should be without the basic necessities – such as shelter, food or clothing,” Clarkston City Councilwoman Debra Johnson said. “I decided to reach out to our local farmers and meat distributors and make the holidays a little more eventful for the city of Clarkston.”

Johnson is working with Georgia Halal Meat to provide 200 to 300 turkeys in November, and she will give families Kroger gift cards in December.

“This way they will be able to prepare a very healthy meal for the holidays to fit the needs of their family without me selecting the produce or meat,” Johnson said. “I am very excited to be in a position to make this happen, and I look forward to a successful event.”
