Stone Mountain, GA – The City of Stone Mountain extended and expanded the local emergency ordinance related to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic in a special called City Council meeting on Thursday evening. The ordinance passed unanimously and will extend the existing emergency ordinance for 30 days, as well as require face masks to be worn “within City-owned or leased properties.”

The ordinance also states that the properties will try to provide free face masks to individuals who do not have one.

The extension of the emergency ordinance also means that City meetings will continue to be held virtually on Zoom.

This ordinance does not contain any guidelines about testing or vaccinations. An ordinance that would have enacted a testing mandate for City employees recently failed and will likely be reconsidered in January.

City Manager ChaQuias Thornton stated that city employees have recently experienced issues with Oasis Healthcare Service, the location where employees are recommended to go for testing, due to the site being closed “the last few days.”
