Tucker, GA — At the Dec. 6 meeting, Tucker Downtown Development Authority introduced the city’s newest hire, Economic Development Manager Jackie Moffo.

As the DDA’s point person, Moffo will work with local, regional and state partners to attract and retain businesses. She will be working with reps from the State Department of Economic Development in siting businesses, corporate headquarters and expansions in Tucker, according to Tucker communications director Matt Holmes.

– DDA board member Crayton Lankford presented data on property in Tucker based on data by David Zeh, Tucker GIS analyst. DDA is developing a GIS database of property values and Occupational Tax Revenues, a goal laid out in the city’s comprehensive plan.

Lankford said the data is a work in progress for evaluating economic activity in the city. According to his report, the highest appraised property values by parcel (not by acre) are apartments at 1604 Juliette Road, Tucker Meridien shopping center at 4310 LaVista Road and apartments at 2037 Weems Road.

Within Downtown Development Authority boundaries, the DDA is collecting $3.4 million in business license revenue from 1,318 companies. Quest Diagnostics on Montreal Road pays the most at $196,000 per year.

– The DDA voted unanimously to engage the Center for Economic Development Research at Georgia Tech (CEDR) to create an economic development toolkit. In January, CEDR helped the DDA create a vision, mission statement and five-year strategic plan focusing on partnerships.

The next DDA meeting is scheduled for Jan. 3, 2022.
