Clarkston, GA — Clarkston residents will have access to at-home testing kits following the Jan. 11 City Council meeting.

City Council considered a proposal to distribute $10,000 worth of test kits, but decided during that meeting to bump it up to $100,000, enough to buy about 8,000 kits. The tests will be paid for with American Rescue Plan Act money, Mayor Beverly Burks said. There are two tests in each box.

“We wanted to make sure we had it available for pretty much every household in Clarkston,” Burks said. “We wanted to increase the amount, so everyone could have access to it.”

City Council also discussed the proposal at its Jan. 4 meeting.

The logistics of how the tests will be distributed are still being worked out, the mayor said.

“We’re more than likely going to engage some of our partners like we did with the COVID-19 task force team,” she said. “We’re in the midst of finalizing that piece, right now, the kits are on back order.”
