Decatur Police respond to stabbing at Ice House Lofts

Decatur, GA — Decatur Police on Jan. 29 responded to a stabbing at the Ice House Lofts, capping off a violent weekend for the Decatur area.

A resident of the Ice House Lofts on Sycamore Place confirmed the location of the incident.

“On Saturday, January 29, 2022 at approximately 5:54 pm, Decatur Police responded to a residence within the 100 block of Sycamore Place in reference to a person stabbed,” Sgt. John Bender said. “Officers located an adult female at the location suffering from a non-life threatening stab wound. The victim was transported to an area hospital in stable condition. Based upon the initial investigation the incident appeared to stem from a dispute between acquaintances. This case is still being actively investigated.”

On Jan. 28, Decatur Police responded to a shooting that left a man in critical condition.

“On Friday, January 28, 2022 at approximately 10:59 p.m., Decatur Police responded to the 1500 block of Commerce Drive in reference to a person shot,” the Police Department said in a social media post. “An adult male victim was inside of an apartment at this location, seated in the living room. An unknown person fired several shots into the apartment from outside. One of these shots struck the victim. The victim was transported to an area hospital in critical condition.”

On Jan. 28, just outside the city of Decatur, a man was shot and killed during an attempted robbery at a local pizza restaurant.

DeKalb County Police confirmed they responded to 2502 Blackmon Drive around 10 p.m. on Jan. 28. The address is for MOD Pizza, and social media postings indicated that’s where the incident occurred. The social media posting said the person who shot the suspect was a customer of the restaurant.

“When [police] arrived, they found the male suspect suffering from gunshot wounds across the street,” a spokesperson for the Police Department said. “Investigators believe the suspect was shot by someone inside the location after the suspect attempted to [rob] it. The suspect was transported to a local hospital, where he later died.”

Police did not provide any additional information.
