DeKalb County, GA — The DeKalb County Board of Education and mayors of DeKalb County are expected to meet in Tucker tomorrow, Jan. 12.

There was no agenda with the meeting announcement. Board Chair Vickie Turner said the meeting will be to discuss the comprehensive master plan which was confirmed by a spokesperson.

People invited to the meeting had varying degrees of understanding about what the meeting is about.

School Board member Marshall Orson, who learned of the meeting last night, said he assumed it’s a “getting to know you” kind of meeting.

Decatur Mayor Patti Garrett said she understood the meeting was about working together and better communication between mayors and the BOE, as well as a discussion about the comprehensive plan.

Bill Floyd, who heads up the DeKalb Municipal Association, said he expects they will discuss what improvements the BOE intends to pay for with the recently approved special purpose local option sales tax. Floyd said the DMA has wanted to arrange a meeting between Superintendent Cheryl Watson-Harris for a while now, but wasn’t able to.
