Clarkston, GA — The city of Clarkston held its first COVID-19 test distribution on Friday, Jan. 21, 2022, giving out “care packets” containing two COVID-19 rapid tests, hand sanitizer, masks and information sheets to the 85 residents of Starnes Senior Residences.
“It was important for us to start here with our aging in place senior community to ensure that they have access to the test and to reduce exposure to themselves and their family members, but also to reduce any barriers to getting COVID-19 tests and just any preventative methods that we can provide to them to make sure they’re safe,”said Clarkston City Councilmember YT. Bell.
”The council and mayor took the initiative to allocate $100,000 for rapid testing for our city,” said Clarkston City Councilmember Debra Johnson. “We were aware that the (federal) government was going to roll out kits for free, but we saw an urgency in our community based on the fact that we have a senior center, and we have a refugee community.”
Johnson said the remainder of 3,780 COVID-19 rapid tests purchased will be distributed to residents in the coming months. Announcements with specifics will be made to the public on the city’s website (clarkstonga.gov) and on social media.
