(PHOTOS) Indian Creek Elementary hosts vaccination event

Clarkston, GA — On Saturday, Feb. 5, around three hundred children and their families lined up to get COVID-19 vaccines during a free clinic at Indian Creek Elementary School in Clarkston.
This was the second “Be a Superhero, Get Vaxxed” themed vaccination event held for students and their family members by DeKalb County and community partners focusing on schools in low vaccination areas. According to organizers, 160 people were vaccinated during the first school vax event at International Community School in greater Decatur on Jan. 26.
“We want DeKalb to be the most vaccinated county in the state, and the best and easiest way to get lifesaving shots to kids and their families is showing up at a place they know and trust – their school,” said DeKalb County Commissioner Ted Terry in a press release.
The free vaccination clinics will be offered in select schools on Saturday mornings and after school. Everyone aged 5 and up getting a first, second or booster shot receives a $100 cash card as an incentive.
According to the Georgia Department of Public Health, as of Feb. 1, 57% percent of DeKalb County residents are fully vaccinated and 63% have at least one dose. 24% have gotten a booster. For children, the number of first doses are: ages 5-9: 24%, ages 10-14: 50% and ages 15-19: 67%.

Indian Creek Elementary Principal Stephanie Brown-Bryant said 300 people signed up to receive first, second and booster COVID-19 shots at the school on Saturday, Feb. 5, 2022. “It was super easy,” Brown-Bryant said. “Parents really want their kids to be safe. We have a trusting relationship already. Interpreters gave as much information about the vaccine as possible.
