— DeKalb County Schools is hosting a district-wide job fair on March 5 from 9 a.m. to noon. 

The job fair will be held at Miller Grove High School, 2645 DeKalb Medical Parkway. Virtual and in-person attendance will be available. Hiring authorities will be on-site to interview candidates for a variety of open positions and departments, including teachers, special education, transportation, counselors, substitute services and others.

— Finder’s Keepers Consignment Stores is seeking a sales associate.

Job duties include establishing a rapport with customers to provide excellent customer service, greeting customers, recommending merchandise, providing product information, handling consignment intake and displaying merchandise in a visually appealing manner.

Candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent, one or more years of retail experience, consignment experience is a plus and have knowledge of fashion trends and labels.

— SAND Preschool in Decatur is seeking teachers and garden assistants. 

SAND Preschool is a nature-based preschool serving children ages one through pre-K in a primarily outdoor environment. The preschool is a half day program at North Decatur United Methodist Church and its hours are 8:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Responsibilities include working closely with other teachers and staff to develop a comprehensive ECE program based in Reggio philosophy, providing individualized and small group instruction in a Reggio environment, and documenting and sharing the Reggio process in the classroom.

Lead teachers must have a college degree and preferred experience in ECE and assistants must have experience in ECE and Reggio. Applicants must have a deep understanding of Reggio Emilia philosophy of ECE.

— The city of Avondale Estates is hiring for a greenspace manager and a streets and stormwater manager. 

The greenspace manager will be responsible for managing the greenspaces of the city including parks, right-of-way and other city-owned property to ensure the city’s flowers, shrubs, turf and trees are healthy and beautiful.

The streets and stormwater manager will be responsible for managing the street, sidewalk, curb and stormwater infrastructure in the city, which includes compliance with state and federal guidelines, ensuring the safety of drivers and pedestrians, and minimizing the impacts of stormwater events.

Both positions will direct, coordinate and monitor the work of assigned staff and perform a variety of technical, programmatic and administrative work to support the assigned programs, such as coordinating with contractors and outside agencies.

— The Atlanta Press Club is hiring a new executive director. 

The Atlanta Press Club is a nonprofit organization with a mission to serve the evolving professional, educational and social needs of the media community, foster journalistic excellence and advance the public’s interest in and understanding of a free press.

The executive director will manage day-to-day activities, including the organization’s finances, long-term programs and events, memberships, sponsorships and more. They will also create strategies for fundraising.

Candidates should have three or more years of experience in nonprofit management, fundraising or marketing or equivalent experience. They should also have a track record for managing staff, working independently in a management role, overseeing account functions and budgeting, corporate sales, experience with event planning, have an understanding of the journalism field, and be able to network with donors, volunteers, the community and business leaders.

— MARTA Police Department is implementing new pay increases and hiring incentives.

The MARTA Police Department is implementing higher starting salaries for police officers and protective specialists. The agency is also implementing a 3% raise for all employees beginning in March, according to a press release.

Starting pay for the protective specialist has increased from $15 to $20 per hour, and reserve officer pay has increased to $30 per hour.

In addition to annual salary increases, police officers will receive a 2% pay increase in July and a 5% increase in July 2023.

“MARTA has an outstanding police force, and it’s important we make salary and benefit adjustments to stay competitive with other law enforcement agencies, and to be able to attract and retain qualified applicants,” said MARTA Police Chief Scott Kreher.

The starting pay for newly hired police applicants is $42,078.40. Upon completion of the Police Academy, officer pay will increase according to level of education:

– High School Diploma: $43,804.80

– Associates Degree: $45,531.20

– Bachelor’s Degree: $47,340.80

All new officers will receive a $3,000 bonus upon completion of the Police Academy, training and a three-year employment agreement.

Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Certified Police Officers who transfer to the MARTA police department will receive a $5,000 bonus upon completion of training and a three-year employment agreement.

MARTA has also increased tuition reimbursement for current sworn police employees to $5,000 per year and covers the annual payment of each officer’s Georgia Peace Officer Annuity Fund.

— Decatur Makers is searching for its next executive director. 

Decatur Makers Executive Director Irm Diorio announced her retirement effective June 30. A search committee of members of the board of directors, members of the makerspace and various external stakeholders have begun a search and hiring process for the next executive director.

In this position, the executive director will work with the board, membership and larger community to execute strategic goals of the organization. They will also ensure a positive culture that prioritizes diversity, equity and inclusion for the membership, staff, board and broader community.

Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, two or more years of leadership experience in a related field, and experience doing team building through the lens of diversity, equity and inclusion, among other qualifications.
