DeKalb County, GA — March is Women’s History Month, and DeKalb County Commissioner Robert Patrick is seeking nominees for the Trailblazer Award.

In 2021, Patrick said he embarked on a campaign to recognize outstanding women in District 1 of DeKalb County with a Women’s History Month Trailblazer Award. Four women were recognized: Sheriff Melody Maddox, first female sheriff of the DeKalb County sheriff’s office; Sheila Collins, retired Cash America Pawn manager; Charlene Fang, volunteer and community leader in the Asian community; DeKalb County Police Department Chief Mirtha Ramos, first woman of color to be appointed Chief of Police in DKPD.

To nominate a woman in District 1 that goes above and beyond at work, at home or in the community, email [email protected] with Women’s History Month in the subject line. The deadline is March 11.

Women’s History Month originated in 1981 when U.S. Congress passed a resolution to recognize women’s accomplishments for a week. In 1987, the National Women’s History Project petitioned to make it a monthlong celebration of women in the arts, business and economics, culture, government, historic places, war and more.
