Atlanta, GA – Seven DeKalb County high school students were recently among 45 high school students from across the region who graduated from the Model Atlanta Regional Commission (MARC) youth leadership program, according to a press release.

The DeKalb graduates were:

– Noah Cranman, Chamblee Carter High School

– Evelyn Ford, Decatur High School

– Bella Perez, St. Pius Catholic High School

– Lucy Phillipson, Decatur High School

– Catie Rooks, Ben Franklin Academy

– Anjali Sankalé, Atlanta International School

– William Stone, The Paideia School

“I congratulate these talented rising leaders on their completion of the MARC program and thank them for sharing their outlook on our region,” said Samyukth Shanbaga, Managing Director of ARC’s Community Development Group. “Their dedication to evolving our communities to meet the needs of their residents fills me with hope for our region’s future.”

MARC students explored real-world issues such as housing affordability, responsible water usage, and the impact of limited transportation options as part of the six-month program. They spoke with local changemakers about equity and resilience,t and offered their own reflections on ways we as a region can better serve our diverse population.

The 2021-2022 program was conducted in a hybrid environment due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with the first half of the program taking place online and the second half in-person.

“MARC is an exciting program that gives our young community members the chance to engage with critical issues facing our region.” said Crystal Jackson, MARC Coordinator. “The interactive program gives students the practical and meaningful experience of planning for metro Atlanta’s future.”

The MARC program is now accepting applications for the 2022-23 class through Apr. 15.
