DeKalb County, GA — DeKalb County is one of the top destinations for film and TV production in the United States, thanks in part to the work done behind the scenes by DeKalb County Entertainment Commission (DEC).

DEC, an arm of Decide DeKalb Development Authority, facilitates permitting and location assistance for productions. The commission also helps with music and digital entertainment initiatives in DeKalb County.

Now, as part of a five-year strategic plan process, DEC is partnering with Sound Diplomacy to develop a strategy that aims to assess the value of DeKalb County’s entertainment ecosystem comprising of music, film, and digital entertainment. The work will identify growth areas within the entertainment pipeline and produce action items and implementation plans that deliver measurable economic and social benefits, according to a press release.

DEC’s strategic plan will address future development of DeKalb’s entertainment infrastructure, creating a blueprint for how the county will engage with the entertainment industry.

“It is no secret that Georgia’s film and television production business is booming. We are the Number 3 destination in the U.S.” said DEC Director Shelbia Jackson. “With the vast majority of movie projects taking place in DeKalb County, it is DEC’s responsibility to ensure all of the county’s entertainment segments have a focused strategy for the long-term.”

Sound Diplomacy is a strategist for cities, developers, large private sector organizations and governments, providing research and market expertise in placing music and music business strategy in city, urban and development plans.

Kate Durio, CEO of North America for Sound Diplomacy, said DEC is already a national model for film, music and digital entertainment.

“We know the impact of these industries is great but having the data and analysis to show economic impact, regulatory frameworks and asset analysis will strengthen the local community’s understanding of how to grow even more,” said Durio.
