Stone Mountain, GA — The Stone Mountain City Council remains divided about continuing virtual meetings.

During a special called meeting on March 24th, the council again voted to extend an emergency declaration for 30 days and again it required a tie-breaking vote by the mayor.

Councilmembers Gil Freeman, Clint Monroe and Shawnette Bryant voted to continue meeting virtually. Councilmembers Teresa Crowe, Gina Stroud Cox and Chakira Johnson voted against it.

Mayor Beverly Jones broke the tie in favor of continuing to meet virtually, as she did in February. The new emergency declaration will expire on April 23.

Jones said the city has “saved a quite sizable amount of money” by holding virtual meetings.
