Decatur, GA — While making his rounds on Monday, Feb. 28, postman Robert Clark did double duty as a volunteer firefighter.

Eddie Minjarez told Decaturish, “I was home for lunch when our usual Winonna Park neighborhood postman, Robert Clark, came running to my house on South Columbia to inform me, and the other neighbors, that a neighbor’s home was on fire. While calling 911, Robert grabbed the water hose and began putting a small flame out on the front of the house. Very nice guy and I am sure the homeowner greatly appreciated the effort as I am sure the fire would have otherwise gone unnoticed and the house would have gone up in flames within moments.”

The Decatur Fire Department confirmed the details of the incident to Decaturish.

“He extinguished it with a water hose,” Assistant Chief and Fire Marshal Ninetta Violante said. “There were no injuries. There was not severe damage to the house.
