Tucker, GA — The city of Tucker is seeking candidates for several jobs, including the role of legal counsel.

Brian Anderson has been the city attorney for six years. Anderson, a Republican, is running for Georgia House District 80 to replace Rep. Matthew Wilson (D). Wilson is running for insurance commissioner. It is unclear whether Anderson plans to remain employed as Tucker City Attorney if he is elected to the Georgia House of Representatives.

On the city’s website is an RFP (request for proposal) for an individual attorney or law firm to perform duties including attending city meetings, advising the mayor and council members, drafting ordinances, amendments and resolutions and assisting with real estate matters.

Tucker’s job posting states the city attorney handles all real estate transactions, including foreclosures, preparation of deeds and property descriptions, filing of liens, and sale or acquisition of property associated with city projects including right-of-way acquisitions.

The RFP does not state a salary, rather “a fixed monthly retainer” and additional hourly pay for duties performed outside the scope of services.

According to city financial documents, Anderson was budgeted for $204,000 for FY22 while total legal spending was budgeted at $435,600.

The city of Tucker rezoned light industrial parcels off Juliette Road in December 2021, hiring attorney Brandon Bowen to consult on the process. Bowen was paid $2,310 for 8.4 hours of work according to Matt Holmes, communications director.

This month, Tucker engaged Mercer Group, a human resources firm, to review the employee handbook, develop a five-year growth plan, enhance the current review process and more.

“HR policies and procedures need to be finalized to ensure that the city can attract and retain qualified personnel, as well as to ensure that the city is in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations,” states a memo from City Clerk Lisa Owen.

Other job openings listed on the city’s website are through the Parks and Recreation Department: assistant camp director, camp activity assistant, camp counselor and pool manager.
