Stone Mountain, GA — Stone Mountain honored retiring Chief of Police Chancey Troutman and his 35 years of service to the city during a ceremony on Thursday, April 28.
Chief Troutman officially retires on May 1, 2022. Patrol Commander Lt. J. R. Westerfield has been named as interim chief while the city searches for a permanent chief of police.
A motorcade of vehicles from several law enforcement agencies in DeKalb County, with Troutman in the lead car behind a pair of motorcycles, travelled through the city’s Shermantown community where the chief hails from, before heading down Main Street with a Georgia State Patrol Honor Guard escort to the gazebo for the ceremony. Troutman said it was a “hard, hard decision” to retire as chief, but he plans to remain active with the police department reserves.
