Stone Mountain, GA — A movie filming at Stone Mountain Park has generated numerous complaints over its use of simulated gunfire and explosions.

The location manager told Tucker Observer that the company is offering to relocate anyone whose sleep has been disrupted by the production.

Residents near the park received a notice from Miller Avenue Productions regarding the filming of a movie with the working title of “Road Trip.” The notice told residents the shoot would last from May 9 to May 20 from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.

“Please be aware: simulated gunfire will be used during filming,” the notice says. “Military themed set dressing, sound, lighting and special effects [are] associated with our filming. This may include actors dressed as armed military personnel, simulated gunfire, military tanks and vehicles. Special effects [include] controlled explosions, smoke and/or haze for atmosphere, etc.”

The production company offered to pay to have pets boarded if residents wish.

Location manager James Hill on May 10 said that he’d been fielding calls all night from angry residents. He said the company is offering to relocate residents to hotels and short-term rentals during the shoot.

He said the company notified residents within a 2 1/2-mile radius before filming began.

Hill agreed that the shoot is louder than what most residents near Stone Mountain have come to expect from events and other shoots at the park.

“I guess because this is quite the action sequence, it’s more than usual,” Hill said.

A spokesperson for Stone Mountain Memorial Association, the operator of the park, said there are several large movie productions slated for this spring and summer.

“Studios have also made improvements to various park areas, such as complete parking lot resurfacing in some cases, as part of their compensation back to the park and the state for use of the facilities,” the spokesperson said. “The public safety parking lot, off of 78 and the Special Event entrance is where all of their heavy equipment is staged.”

The said major film stars, including The Rock, have been a part of productions at the park over the years which has included work by Disney and Marvel studios. Filming typically occurs on the back side of the mountain.
