Tucker, GA — It may take three to four years to see results, but Tucker Summit Community Improvement District (CID) is preparing to light up the streets in their district.
At the June 27 Tucker City Council meeting, Larry Kaiser of Tucker Summit CID detailed a three-phase plan to bring more streetlights to North Royal Drive and South Royal Drive, Mountain Industrial Boulevard from Lawrenceville Highway to East Ponce de Leon Avenue and side roads off Mountain Industrial Boulevard.
“I’m not here with my hat in hand, asking for money,” Kaiser said. “That will come later on, of course, but not tonight.”
Better street lighting will reduce crime and improve traffic safety, Kaiser said.
Tucker Summit CID plans to partner with Georgia Power, DeKalb County and the city of Tucker on the project, estimated at $880,000. Kaiser said Tucker-Northlake CID is planning to help with lighting on Tucker Industrial Road, where the two CIDs meet.
After meetings with Georgia Power, Kaiser said the power company is willing to reduce the price of materials. Tucker Summit CID and Georgia Power will continue to negotiate, he added.
Next, Tucker Summit CID and DeKalb County will identify parcels and talk to parcel owners.
“We’re going to have some early conversations with our business owners and see what kind of thoughts and ideas they have going forward. We surely do not want to spend all this time and effort if we find that business owners do not want it,” said Kaiser.
Tucker Summit CID covers Mountain Industrial Boulevard from Lawrenceville Highway to East Ponce de Leon. The CID is currently involved in traffic improvements on Hugh Howell Road, Tuckerstone Parkway and Rock Mountain Boulevard According to its website, “the primary objectives of the CID are to grow property values and enhance the district’s prominence as the first choice for business growth and development.”
