Tucker, GA — Sunday afternoon on June 26, around 20 people assembled at the intersection of Hugh Howell Road and Lawrenceville Highway in the city of Tucker to show their opposition to the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. The group consisted of residents from Tucker, Clarkston and Stone Mountain.
“I think that we need to get out in our local communities wherever we live. The smaller locality the better. If we believe in a woman’s choice, we should get out everywhere, people should come out in the streets and voice their opinion. That’s our right and we are in the majority.” said Maureen Wallin of Clarkston, one of the demonstration’s organizers. “The Supreme Court’s decision does not agree with the vast majority of this country, and we should get out everywhere.”
Passing motorists honked their horns and waved in support as the group held up signs toward the busy intersection.
Margot Smith of Clarkston who helped organize the demonstration said, “I’m here to fight for women’s rights. It’s our right whether we want to have an abortion or not.”
Tucker resident Jenna Jones, another organizer, said the Supreme Court’s decision was a punch to the gut.
“I don’t think that someone else’s beliefs should dictate what I do with my body. I believe that abortion is healthcare. I went to the Atlanta protest, but I thought it’s important to show Tucker that we are out here. There might be less people that have the beliefs that I do, but I want to show the people driving by that we are in this together,” said Jones.
