Tucker, GA — Tucker Zoning Board of Appeals approved a variance that will allow Pepsi to build four new truck bays at the facility on Rock Mountain Boulevard.

The city’s code requires buildings be designed, so service bays are not visible from a public street. Approving the variance allows Pepsi to construct bays facing Lewis Road.

A 210,000 sq. ft. expansion is planned for the site, requiring the relocation of the existing fleet maintenance building and other site work. The expansion includes three new bottling lines that will increase production five times, and a 46,481 sq. ft. warehouse addition to store products.

City staff recommended approval, stating Pepsi is meeting the intent of the Tucker Comprehensive Plan.

“One of the major goals is to bolster economic base. Granting this variance would help to accomplish this goal by preserving and expanding Tucker’s industrial employment base,” said Jessica Echols, Tucker planner. “Granting this variance would not be a special privilege because the applicant has made considerable effort to screen the service bays.”

ZBA approved the variance, 3-0. Members Bob Espy and Joe Singleton were not present. The July meeting is canceled.
