Tucker, GA — The city of Tucker is making changes to staff and contractors in the new fiscal year, voting to hire new employees, approving a settlement with the former city attorney and raising the salary of two city staff members.

Tucker employs about 30 permanent employees and 21 contractors from Jacobs, a company that provides contractors to government agencies.  

The city is seeking to fill several positions, including a recreation assistant, building inspector, human resources generalist, capital projects coordinator and customer service representative.

Recent city staff hires are Multimedia Coordinator Ariel Caldwell, Finance Director Beverly Ragland, Finance Manager Erich Krahn, Citizen Responder Cheryl Neal and City Attorney Tom Baggett. Sonja Szubski was promoted to communications director. 

Baggett was hired after an executive session, a meeting attended only by city council members to discuss legal, real estate or personnel matters. Council members voted not to renew a contract for former city attorney Brian Anderson which expired on June 30, as reported by Tucker Observer on May 12. Anderson served as city attorney for six years, since Tucker established its cityhood. 

Now, the city is awarding Anderson $20,000 for a severed contract as the city’s prosecutor, an additional role for the former city attorney. It is unclear who initiated the dissolution.

“Brian Anderson and the City of Tucker desire to cease continuation of the service of providing Prosecuting Attorney services of the City of Tucker by Brian Anderson,” a document reads. 

On July 11, the Tucker City Council voted unanimously to renew the contracts of the city manager and city clerk and give them a 6% raise in salary.

Scheduled for July 25, the city council work session has been canceled. The next city council meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Aug. 8 at City Hall.
