DeKalb Police make arrests in alleged child abuse incident at daycare

Stone Mountain, GA — DeKalb County Police have made three arrests in connection to an investigation into alleged child abuse at The Appletree Learning Center and Academy.

On Wednesday, July 13, DeKalb Police said they were investigating the daycare, located at 4700 E. Ponce de Leon Ave. in Stone Mountain, for an alleged child abuse incident. According to 11 Alive, a spokesperson for the Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning said a parent reported “allegations of inappropriate discipline with toddlers,” to DeKalb Police on July 12.

A 76-year-old woman and a 25-year-old woman have been arrested for cruelty in the first degree, and a 54-year-old woman was arrested under the Mandated Reporter Law for failure to report child abuse, according to DeKalb Police.

The police department is encouraging anyone who feels that their child may have been a victim or have any information that may help in this investigation to contact the DeKalb County Special Victims Unit at (770) 724-7710.
