DeKalb Police arrest man accused of fatally shooting man at Stone Mountain gas station

Stone Mountain, GA — DeKalb County Police on Aug. 3 arrested a man accused in the fatal shooting of another man at a Chevron gas station in Stone Mountain.

According to 11 Alive, the shooting happened at 1:30 a.m. at the gas station located on Redan Road. The victim was later identified as Kory Powell.

“When police arrived, they located the man suffering from gunshot wounds,” 11 Alive reported. “He was taken to the hospital where he later died, they said.”

This is the second suspect arrested in this case. Police arrested the first suspect, Joseph Brandon, on June 1.

A spokesperson for the police department identified the suspect as Justin Stafford.

“Justin Stafford was arrested for the murder of Kory Powell that happened at 4777 Redan Road on 5/31 of this year,” the spokesperson said. “Mr. Stafford was taken into custody yesterday at approximately 5 p.m. when he was located in the area of Redan Road.”

Powell’s family set up a Go Fund Me to cover his funeral services.
