Tucker Planning Commission supports amendment to convenience store ordinance

Tucker, GA — The city of Tucker’s planning commission discussed revisions to ordinances regulating convenience stores at their regular meeting on Sept. 15.
The Planning Commission unanimously recommended approval of the new regulations on convenience stores.
The city council passed a moratorium on convenience stores in July to remain in effect while the city reviewed existing ordinances and drafted new ones regulating convenience stores.
Recent moves by the Tucker City Council to prohibit gambling machines and to require video surveillance cameras at all gas stations represent two-thirds of the planned revisions. Both ordinances were passed at the city council’s regular business meeting on Sept. 12.
The new ordinance revision will amend the definitions of a convenience store, gift shop, specialty store, retail store, and grocery store and will require a special land use permit for title loan, check cashing, and pawn shops in the manufacturing zoning district.
The new ordinance will receive a first read at the Tucker City Council’s October meeting, and a second read and a vote at their November meeting.
