Brockett Road Traffic calming project officially gets underway Oct. 13

Tucker, GA — Some long-awaited safety improvements to Brockett Road will officially begin on Oct. 13, the city says.

“Work is slated to begin on the recently awarded Brockett Road Traffic Calming project on October 13 weather pending,” the city’s website says. “Expect traffic delays and make adjustments to your route as needed. Additional information coming soon.”

The web page for the project will be updated as the project moves forward.

City spokesperson Sonja Szubski said, “This has been in discussion at Council meetings for over a year, was added to the FY 23 budget and construction contract approval went through at the September 22 meeting.”

“There will be intermittent traffic control through the duration of the project which is slated for four to six months, weather dependent,” she said. “A combination of traffic-calming devices such as side chicanes and medians will be employed thought the length of Brockett Road from Idlewood to Lavista.”

At its September meeting, the Tucker City Council awarded a contract to Summit Construction & Development, LLC for traffic-calming measures on Brockett Road in the amount of $1,275,679. The city poured concrete for new sidewalks along the road in March.

Following a fatal pedestrian crash on June 10, 2021, the road was slated for a list of improvements.

Kuldip Kaur, 56, who was struck and killed by a car on Brockett Road on June 10., 2021. Several days after a well-attended vigil for Kaur, Jonathan Bain turned himself into police and was charged with DUI, failure to maintain, homicide by vehicle in the first degree and reckless driving.

Neighbors and relatives say that Kaur took daily walks in the area. They also said that drivers on Brockett regularly exceed the speed limit and drive recklessly.
