Customers of the Waffle House in Avondale Estates were left wondering what was up this week when the company put caution tape in front of the driveway and a “closed” sign in the window.

The Waffle House on East College has been in business since 1995. Waffle House spokesperson Kelly Thrasher said the restaurant will reopen again soon.

“The Waffle House in Avondale is closed for about a week for a remodel,” Thrasher said. “Hopefully it should open by the first of next week.”

Thrasher said the Avondale Estates location was last renovated in 2009. She said the current project, “is just a light refresh.”

The first Waffle House opened in Avondale Estates 1955, not far from the current Avondale Estates location. The original location is now a museum. Contributor Lauren Ragland visited the museum in March. To see her story, click here.
