Bicycle South closing after almost 50 years in business

Bicycle South, a cycling shop in greater Decatur, will close its doors after almost 50 years in business.

Owner Brian Dunne is moving to Louisville for “family reasons,” according to a post on the company’s Facebook page.

“Thank you to all our loyal customers who have meant so much to us throughout the years,” the post says. “We have enjoyed being part of this wonderful community.”

The store was previously co-owned by Fred Boykin, a former Decatur City Commissioner. Boykin sold his share in the business in 2015.

Boykin moved to the Atlanta area to attend Emory University and opened the shop in 1971.

The store’s last day in business will be July 31. The store is located at 2098 N. Decatur Rd.
