Drew Charter School in East Lake went into lockdown mode on Oct. 29 after gunshots were heard in the area.

Peter McKnight, Head of School, said the lockdown was implemented due to a “perceived threat” from the gunshots.

“The Atlanta Police Department and the Atlanta Public Schools Police Department quickly investigated and determined that there was no imminent threat to Drew’s campuses, and the lockdown was ultimately lifted,” McKnight said. “As an extra safety precaution, law enforcement advised that our school limit outdoor activities for the remainder of the school day.”

There was also a lock down at the school back in August following a “communication” that prompted Drew Charter to implement its lockdown procedures. At the time, McKnight said he did not believe anyone was in imminent danger during that incident.
